Meet C.C. Strom!
Communications + Content Consultant @ C Communications. Member since June 2020.
Why did you decide to join AMA MN? My marketing experience is in the nonprofit arena, which means handling a wide range of projects such as content development, Google Analytics, and email marketing. I wanted to learn about more niche topics from experts in various areas. And, I wanted to learn how to tweak how I talk about my work experiences for the corporate audience. Marketing is a huge field with so many specialized areas that I felt compelled to intentionally find new opportunities for learning.
Why is being a member of AMA MN important to you? The first event I attended was in the summer of 2019 and was about the customer journey. The speaker shared some great tools for developing the customer journey and personas. The session helped me understand the importance of taking the time to think about your audience – whether that is a donor, customer, or client – and where they are at in the process of buying, donating or supporting a cause.
What’s one of your favorite AMA MN events and why? I think it’s great to connect with other professionals outside of your own niche. On-going learning is essential to professional development, but more importantly it keeps us connected to other people. And you never know who you might meet!
What’s the one thing you wish others knew about AMA MN? What makes it unique?I love the downloadable resources the national office provides. And I really like that AMA is pulling together people who are handling marketing for large corporations and small businesses. We can all learn things from the experiences of others.
What is some of the best advice you’ve received in your career? Years ago, I got a call out of the blue from a professional acquaintance. He made a habit of calling someone every week just to stay in touch. I’ve never followed the advice, but now that we’re all physically isolated and reliant on email and technology, placing a phone call just to re-connect seems like a great idea to sustain relationships and our humanity.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? My family has season tickets to Minnesota United which we love! And my husband and I just launched our own “Minnesota State Park Project” which is our attempt to visit all of the state parks. We’ll be doing a lot of hiking in the next few years!
